When considering which funder to apply to, you may want to consider whether funding from that source will leave your study eligible for adoption of your study into the UK CRN Portfolio. The UK CRN Portfolio comprises the NIHR Clinical Research Network, the Scottish Clinical Research Portfolios, Northern Ireland Clinical Research Network and the NISCHR Clinical Research Infrastructure, each of which has specific eligibility criteria.

Please note that studies funded by the USA National Institutes of Health or European Framework Programmes only have medium priority regarding acceptance onto the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN) Portfolio. This means the studies will need formal consideration prior to acceptance, rather than being automatically eligible.

As of 1 June 2010 the NIHR Coordinated System for gaining NHS Permission (CSP) is the sole entry point for studies applying for inclusion on the NIHR CRN Portfolio. This is done via the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS).
